MANAGEMENT OF HEAT STRESS IN POULTRY

Heat stress has to be managed by a combination of management methods.

1) House management

2) Nutritional management

 A. HOUSING MANAGEMENT

Maintaining coolness in the poultry house is an important management option. It starts with the planning of house design and also management of the house and the birds after house construction.

Outside of the poultry house, don't allowed tall trees and weeds, it will restrict air flow, while bare ground can reflect heat into the poultry pen.  Low cut grass is best as it helps to absorb the sun and heat.

 B NUTRITIONAL MANAGEMENT

A )  AVAILABILITY OF COOL DRINKING WATER

Water is the important media for heat loss. About 70-80% of the bird's heat production is dissipated via panting ( evaporating cooling). Adequate water provision is a must as water restriction even for a short period is disastrous for poultry in hot weather. Even though birds drink more water,it's retention in the cells is less because of loss of electrolytes.

 B) REDUCTION OF WATER TEMPERATURE

Overhead tanks should not be  exposed to constant heat in hot weather. Location of water tanks in shaded area or provision of shade over water tanks keeps water cool. Insulation of water tanks with retaining material reduces the water temperature further. Water pipes must run under ground and any exposed pipes have to be covered to prevent heating of the pipes.

 C) WATER TREATMENT

Bacteria grow much more rapidly in the water lines during hot weather. We suggest to do whatever possible to treat your water with water sanitiser that is  acidifiers to minimize  microorganisms  in the gut.

 D) FLUSHING THE PIPELINES.

Cooling drinking water by flushing water lines during the afternoon has been shown to increase  feed consumption  and sustain egg production in heat - stressed layers.

 E)  ENERGY AND PROTIEN IN FEED.

Fats are excellent sources of energy for poultry to compensate for lower feed intake. Fat is also more digestible ingredient that generates less metabolic heat during digestion compared to starch. Fat has also been shown to slow down feed passage through the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore increases nutrient  utilization. Up to 5%  or  10% oil can be used.

Reduce the level of protein content in your layer diet during hot weather and you can supplement your Amino acid during this hot weather by using KEPRO AMINO ACIDS as supplements. Heat increment with protein  catabolism is more than that of carbohydrates and fat.

 F) TIME OF FEEDING

Timing of feeding is an important factor in alleviating heat stress in poultry production. Feed intake and digestion produce *7* % additional heat in body of birds which is maximum 3.5-4hrs after feed intake. It will be better don't offer feed to birds 4hrs before environmental maximum temperature  Broilers chickens are appear to be more responsive to the timing of feeding than laying hens. Feed should always be fresh and not be stored for longer period.

 G) USE OF VIT  E  + SEL + C all found in SHARIGROW and Sharivit

Vitamin E + SEL  + C wsp is a concentrated water-soluble powder for use in drinking water. Selenium is necessary for growth and fertility and has an interaction with vitamin E that allows each to partially substitute the other. Selenium also has anti-oxidant action. Vitamin E main functions in livestock is to boost anti-oxidant defense, protects cell membrane and to enhances immune function. Vitamin C is essential as a co- enzyme in certain oxidative processes,it is necessary for normal folic acid function and it is also essential for normal wound healing and preserving normal capillary function.

 H)  USE OF VITAMINS AND ELECTROLYTE

Use of Vitamins and Electrolytes supplements like SHARIGROW and SHARIVIT in drinking  water to replenish the loss of sodium, chloride, potassium and bicarbonate in the urine. The electrolyte supplements are best used in anticipation of a rapid rise in environmental temperature.

I.  Avoid excessive activity during the hottest part of the day. The hot weather is a great stress on the birds, so avoid bothering and disturbing the birds during periods of peak heat. Adjust work  schedules and lightning programs so that routine work is done early in the morning it night. Management practices that require bird handling, such as beak trimming, transfer and vaccination should be done in the early  morning hours.

 J.  AVOID OVERCROWDING OF YOUR FLOCK .

By reducing the number of birds in a poultry house, you are reducing the amount of body heat produced which can be become critical during the hottest part of the day.

HOW TO MANAGE THE SOW:PIG FARMING

⁣⁣⁣Female pigs chosen for breeding should be given special attention from the husband man if sows are expected to yield massively. Sows shouldn’t be allowed to grow too fat. When this happens, the affected sows will have leg and fertility problems. Allow all sows to get plenty exercise in order to stay fit, burn out excess fat and develop their legs well.⁣⁣⁣ Normally, young sows (gilts) are ready to conceive at 6 months of age, but mating them at this age is not advisable. They should be allowed to attain good weight before they are serviced. So wait until the gilts reach 8 – 10 months before they could be serviced. If gilts are serviced too early, there will be poor growth, small litters, farrowing (birth) problems and loss of conditions.⁣⁣⁣ Few weeks before servicing gilts or sows, they should be well-fed with protein-rich food or feed and extra quantities of feed should be provided. These make them fit and strong for mating, and allow the animals to produce more eggs for ferti...
